The December Featured Business of the Month:
The Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad is honored to be part of Hampshire County’s story and proud to share the beauty, history, and hospitality of our region with visitors from near and far. As one of West Virginia’s most unique heritage attractions, we welcome passengers aboard to experience the rich culture of the South Branch Potomac River Valley—right here in our own backyard. Railroads have long been an important part of West Virginia’s story, connecting communities and helping to shape the character of our small towns, and we’re proud to carry that tradition forward in a new way. Each trip offers a glimpse into that history and the natural treasures around us, including the chance to see America’s majestic bald eagles soaring through “The Trough.” More than a scenic train ride, Potomac Eagle is an eco-tourism experience that celebrates our land, our people, and the spirit that makes Hampshire County such a special place to live and visit. Running through every season, we’re proud to support local tourism and the economy, partner with area businesses, and provide educational field trips that inspire the next generation to appreciate and protect this remarkable part of West Virginia.
Final Paragraph 2 — Holiday Feature: The North Pole Express & Holiday Trough
As the holidays approach, the Potomac Eagle transforms into a winter wonderland with two special seasonal experiences. Beginning in November, families can climb aboard the North Pole Express—a festive, pajama-party Christmas train filled with music, laughter, and a visit from Santa himself. Just steps away, our Event Barn at the station will be brimming with holiday activities and local cheer. We’ll also be running our Holiday Trough dining trains, featuring cozy meals, beverage service, and breathtaking winter views of the eagle habitat. Winter is one of the most exciting times for birding and photography, as the bald eagles are busy with their nestoration—repairing and reinforcing nests, renewing pair bonds, and preparing for the next breeding season. At the same time, the juvenile eagles begin to separate and find their own territories, marking a new stage in their remarkable life cycle. All this activity creates some of the most dramatic and unforgettable bald eagle sightings of the year. Whether guests come for the magic of Christmas or the wonder of West Virginia’s wildlife, we’re proud to offer experiences that bring joy, visitors, and community pride to Hampshire County.
